Skins is bottom-line real. Back in 2007, critics saw Juno similarly racy too. Of course that was half a parody to teenage pregnancy using funky lingo but Skins one ups it. It’s serious to the topics mention and that’s the fear people see in it.

Actually, I don’t find “Skins” to be all that realistic. The show picks and chooses elements from its UK counterpart–notice the use of the English slang term “spliff?”–and presents a world in which teens drop ecstasy in the morning, smoke at school, and throw wild parties almost every night. This isn’t true in the least, and MTV should stop marketing “Skins” as a true-life drama and, perhaps, think about considering it as a fantasy.

So personally I like the show “Skins”. Don”t get me wrong I”m not saying it’s educational or “real” in the least, but it is pretty comical. The shows a good laugh because it’s so unrealistic, but that doesn’t hide the fact that some teens do take drugs and this isn’t the problem of the show. What I don’t understand how television shows like “Skins” take so much heat for supposedly “promoting” drugs to teens but there’s at least 5 shows about teenage pregnancy and these girls turn into “role models” yeah right it’s hypocritical. News flash people if you don’t want to take drugs DON’T DO IT! An if parents have a problem with the show, don’t let let your kid watch it, but please people let’s stop blaming all of our problems with society of T.V because its getting pretty ridiculous.

People are kidding themselves if they think the events that happen in “Skins” don’t happen in real life. Although the show may exaggerate certain issues for entertainment purposes, I know many teens with home lives as complicated as the teenagers on the show. Also, drinking, drugs, and sex are fairly common to most teenagers; the show is not a far stretch from reality. The media in the United States is just far too conservative.
