The Mash chatted with your Mash Models winners to talk about their photo shoot experience and, of course, fashion!
Tell us about your experience with Mash Models.
Marisol: This experience has been amazing! Since I was informed that I was one of three girls chosen for this contest, I was so excited and thankful for being chosen! I met so many talented and awesome people along this journey. I had so much fun, and now as the winner I am even more thankful. I have so much more confidence in myself. I have proven to many around me that if I want something I get it! I am thankful for everyone who helped me and for everyone who voted!
Steven: Being a Mash Model has been a rollercoaster … It was a mix of excitement, anticipation and surrealism. The fact that I was even a finalist made me feel like I accomplished something major in my life. It made me feel important and that the steps to my dreams are coming closer and closer. I just want to … thank everyone who has helped me achieve my goals, not just in the competition, but also in life. You all have showed me that if you really believe in it, you can strive to achieve it, no matter what anyone else says.
What are you going to do with the money?
Marisol: I am going to purchase my graduation dress!
Steven: I still have no idea what I am going to do with the money! It hasn’t even crossed my mind. I was too busy soaking in all the craziness … I would probably use the money to buy myself something really cute and then share the rest with my sister Hayley who lives in Iowa. I don’t get to see her much and to have that bond of shopping is really good for us to connect.
What was it like to go to the on-location photo shoot?
Marisol: The on-location photo shoot was definitely my favorite part of this whole thing. It was something I have always wanted to do and it came true. Working with the photographer and stylist who are both very talented was fun!
Steven: The on-location photo shoot was amazing! I have never been to the Lincoln Park Zoo before even though I live super close to it, and to see all the exotic animals was a great experience. The tricky part was when we had to slyly have the animals cooperate in our photos as well as finding good spots because of the poor weather.
Any fashion tips for the summer?
Marisol: Fashion tips for this summer would be (to wear your hair with) loose curls/waves and (wear) fedora hats. Also, make sure to own a pair of wedges!
Steven: For the ladies, wear shorts that can really accentuate your legs and maybe a top that is short sleeved and baggy so you can tuck it in. For the guys, I always love rolled up shorts and a graphic tee with a light colored circle scarf. And remember to wear light colored clothing! You want to deflect the heat waves of the sun during the summer.
