The Mash

After paging through dozens of applications and photos, we had the tough task of choosing six finalists—three boys and three girls—for our Mash Models competition. The winning boy and girl together will grace the cover of The Mash’s summer fashion guide and each win $100.

As soon as we selected our six models, we called Wendella Boats and booked an afternoon cruise for our first photo shoot. The models didn’t disappoint. As we cruised the Chicago River, they smiled, posed and showed us their best sides.

So here’s where we need your help. You can vote for your favorite model in three ways: vote online at facebook.com/mashchicago, text the model’s first name to 87708 or tweet the first name to
@MashChicago with a hashtag (example: #Rihanna).

The first round of voting ends on May 12 and the final four contestants will be revealed in our May 16 issue. Be sure to check out our winners in The Mash’s summer fashion guide, in school on May 30!

The ladies:

Khadija Mohammed
Junior, Lincoln Park

“I think I should be The Mash’s next top model because I have personal style while adhering to my religion. Since I wear a hijab, it’s hard to be modest without aging myself. However, I can turn the hottest trends into modest trends.”

Text “Khadija” to 87708, vote at facebook.com/mashchicago or tweet #Khadija to @MashChicago.

Andrea Caruso
Junior, Riverside Brookfield

“Everyone wants to be a model, but for all the wrong reasons. They want popularity, fame and attention. I would love to be The Mash’s next top model because I enjoy using my imagination to create scenes, and for a split moment, enter an entirely different life.”

Text “Andrea” to 87708, vote at facebook.com/mashchicago or tweet #Andrea to @MashChicago.

Maya Reese
Sophomore, Whitney Young

“I love to model! I have recently been trying to pursue a modeling career by participating in fashion shows, reading information about other models and interning as a photographer at a summer program at Chicago State University.”

The guys:

Jo’Qwan Whitmore
Junior, V.O.I.S.E. Academy

“I should be The Mash’s next top model because I have the whole package. I love modeling and I love the camera. I’m a very talented and confident person. I have something going for myself, and this would be a start for me.”
