Thanks for a great year!

Hello, our name is TheMash.

That’s how we introduced ourselves to you in our first issue when the school year began in September. The next nine months would be an adventure we would share together.

Who knew back then that we would go to a haunted house and on college road trips, see Lil Wayne in concert, watch Whitney Young win a basketball championship and meet celebrities from Common to Kobe Bryant? During those times, we also got to know you: what makes your school cool, what makes you talented, what makes you laugh, what makes you mad, your opinions, your likes and dislikes.

We saw some of your school’s best athletes each week on our sports page, got to know some of your school’s fashionistas on Dress Code, and learned about your embarassing childhood nicknames on Soundoff.

We thank you for letting us into your lives and your schools. We thank you for voting in our PROMathon contest and helping Lane Tech’s Jiayin Zheng create her dream prom. Thanks for all the shout outs from Crystal Harris at Austin Business and Entrepreneurship, for all fun photos on Snaps from Claudia Rangel at Juarez and for the great quotes from Matt Glodz at Northside. And a big thank you to our staff of high school reporters. Your hard work made each issue possible. We thank the teachers, principals and educators, too, who’ve been just as supportive. We’re going away for the summer, but we’ll see you again in the fall.

And you’ll see some changes.

TheMash will continue to grow, welcoming students from the suburbs and adding a few new surprises that we think you’ll like. Just wait and see.

Until then, TTYL!

Phillip Thompson, Editor
Erinn Hutkin, Assistant Editor
Rockland Page, Designer
