Dan Corral

SOPHOMORE, Jones SPORT: Baseball

Why he’s got game: Corral’s hot bat was a big reason behind the Jones advancing to its second straight Class 3A supersectional. In the Eagles’ four playoff games, Corral went 8-for-13 from the plate with nine RBI and three doubles. The sophomore catcher drove in two in Jones’ 9-2 win last Saturday over U-High to help capture the sectional crown and that outing came on the heels of a three-RBI effort three days earlier in a 12-2 sectional semifinal over host Brooks. The Eagles’ playoff ride ended Monday with a 13-8 loss to Joliet Catholic but Corral continued his torrid streak, going 2-for-4 with two runs driven in. He ended the season hitting .410 with 37 RBI. What’s your dream job? I’d like to hold political office. Ever since elementary school, I’ve always been interested in politics. ... I think the leadership skills I’ve gained in baseball, especially playing catcher, would help out in politics. Do you have a favorite post-game meal? After just about every game, I go home and my mom makes homemade tacos. She makes them with some special ingredients, including Mexican steak. What is your proudest sports moment? Being part of this year’s team, making it to supersectionals. It was great how hard we all worked and how we pushed each other to get better.
