But above all else, the ceremony is also known for the stars’ impeccable sense of style. Let’s take a look at what was trending on the red carpet Sunday night at the 67th annual Golden Globe Awards.
Ruffles
Chloe Sevigny, better known as Nicolette Grant in “Big Love,” was sandwiched between two blankets of cream-colored ruffle glam. Although the idea may seem strange at first, she made it work. These are the same trendy ruffles we saw on vintage shirts during the winter of 2008 that disappeared soon after. And now, they’re baaack.
Diagonal strap
Drew Barrymore, who won a Globe for playing Edith Beale in “Grey Gardens,” wore my personal favorite dress of the night. She took a spin off the one diagonal strap trend and decided to wear a much more three dimensional strap. It somewhat reminded me of the origami dresses Lady Gaga wore last year on several occasions.
Lace and sheer fabric
Academy Award-winning Marion Cotillard, nominated this year for “Nine,” sported a beautiful green dress. The dress was split vertically a little above the knee. To replace the gap between the portion above her kneecap and the opening of the dress, a small piece of sheer fabric was added. It made the difference as not only did it match her gladiator heels, but also it added a subtle sensual touch.
The headband
January Jones, Betty Draper from “Mad Men” has beautiful golden hair and elle.com would agree with me when I say her hairstylist made good use of it with an updo and putting a black headband in her hair. It not only accompanied her black dress, but the contrast between her sunshine hair color and the headband was perfecto.
Updo hair bob
Sandra Bullock from “The Proposal” and “The Blind Side” managed to score both a best actress Golden Globe and a great hairstyle. Despite the rain, she was looking fabulous. When asked by an entertainment reporter what would happen if the rain hit her hair, she responded “chia pet” jokingly, but the updo was genius--carefree but elegant.
Purple
Move over, turquoise. It may be named the color of the year by Elle magazine and Yahoo!, but purple ruled the red carpet at the Golden Globe Awards last night. Sandra Bullock, Mariah Carey and even NBC’s Natalie Morales wore it.
