“Yep, get the controller and let’s play.”
“Wow, a new Nintendo 64. Super exciting.”
This was the conversation that my sister and I had about week ago. My sister had come home with a brand new Nintendo 64 game system. When I heard the news, I was beyond excited. As new game systems have come and gone, the Nintendo 64 has always reigned supreme in my heart.
When I was about 6 years old, my older brother bought a Nintendo 64 with the allowance he had saved up for several months. Once he bought it, plus a few games, my siblings and I could not keep away from the infectious system. It was my first taste of video games and I was loving every minute of it. The first game I played was “Goldeneye” with James Bond. I truly loved the simplicity of it all.
As the years went by, the Nintendo 64 sank into obscurity, replaced by the newer Playstation 2 and Xbox. The game system started to collect dust in my house as games were lost and controllers lost their power. I bought a Xbox a few years ago and it was fun and all, but I was never able to enjoy it as much as my Nintendo 64. I was just excited to join the wave of the newest game systems. However, newer does not always mean better.
The Nintendo 64 may not be as fancy or as cool as some of the more recent game systems, but it will forever be the best system in my eyes. As you get older, don’t be afraid to continue to embrace the relics of your childhood.
